Reddit is taking a major step toward global accessibility by expanding its AI search to five new languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. With this rollout, users across Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy can now explore Reddit’s AI-driven question-and-answer experience in their native language.

This new feature allows users to chat with Reddit’s AI in a conversational Q&A format, powered by Google’s advanced language model. The expansion aims to make Reddit’s vast community knowledge more discoverable and easier to navigate for non-English speakers.

Reddit first introduced its AI-powered search last year as part of a feature called Reddit Answers. Designed to work alongside the platform’s traditional search, Reddit Answers uses generative AI to summarize discussions and highlight the most relevant posts from communities.

According to Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, the company’s search feature now attracts over 70 million weekly users, while Reddit Answers serves more than 6 million people every week. Huffman also mentioned during the company’s quarterly earnings call that Reddit plans to unify its AI and traditional search systems to deliver a seamless experience for all users.

The rise of Q&A-style search tools has accelerated since ChatGPT introduced web search capabilities. Major players like Google and Brave have adopted similar generative AI features to enhance user engagement and keep users on their platforms longer. Meanwhile, startups such as Perplexity have gained traction by focusing solely on conversational, chat-based search experiences.

Reddit’s latest move signals how competitive the search space has become in the AI era. By making its AI search available in multiple languages, Reddit is positioning itself to better serve a global audience, while staying ahead in the race to redefine how people find and interact with information online.
